Patients who are elderly, frail and have multiple medical comorbidities may not be able to visit hospital- based Specialists, because of their frailty, or the availability of transport or carer support. Not many specialists will actually visit a nursing facility. Dr Butler feels that it is within these facilities that the need for a specialist geriatric review is greatest, and he strives to support his GP colleagues as best he can in order deliver the best outcomes for patients and their families.
Dr Butler's philosophy promotes excellence in aged-care medicine and he has developed good working relationships with a number of local facilities. This is promoted by his work ethic, dependable and consistent service, clear communication and promotion of patient-centered care. Continuity of medical care is an important feature. He contributes to the nursing educational programs within these facilities and brings expertise, encouragement, and supports an improved level of quality of patient-centered care.
Dr Butler graduated from Southampton University (UK) with a BM Hons in 1995, gaining MRCP (UK) in 1999 and dual accreditation (CCT) in Geriatrics and General Internal Medicine. He is accredited with the Australian College of Physician's (FRACP) and the Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine (ANZSGM).
